Cévennes episode: two departments on orange alert for storms and rain-flooding

This Tuesday, Météo placed the departments of and Lozère on rain-flood and thunderstorm alert.

Bad weather is expected from next night.

Be careful in the next few hours. Gard and Lozère have been placed on orange alert for rain-flooding and thunderstorms by Météo France. These disruptions will begin around midnight. Significant amounts of rain are expected by Wednesday afternoon: 50 mm on the Gard plains, Aubrac and Margeride, 120 to 150 mm widespread on the Cévennes relief, and occasionally up to 250 mm on the massif of Aigoual and Mont Lozère.

This Cévennes episode, which crosses the south-east of the country, promises to be lasting, until the night of Thursday October 17 to Friday October 18, or even until Friday morning.

An extension of vigilance remains possible, particularly in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (plains of Provence and Côte d’Azur), since uncertainties remain about the intensity of stormy rains. Orange vigilance could also concern Ardèche in the coming hours.

FORECASTS

If the mildness currently dominates, it is due to the presence of a southerly flow over the country. It will bring heavy rains from the Mediterranean regions. The accumulations are expected to be significant locally, giving reason to fear further major flooding.
