For the 5th stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk, Sam Bennett (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale) consolidated his first place by winning a third stage. The Irishman is ahead of Paul Penhoet (Groupama-FDJ) and Jenno Berckmoes (Lotto-Destiny) in the sprint.

Irishman Sam Bennett from the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team won his third stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk on Saturday May 18, in Cassel (North), consolidating his first place in the general classification. Several attacks followed one another to undermine the French team, without success.

18th victory of the season for Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale

After his victories on Wednesday and Thursday, the 33-year-old runner recruited this season by the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team once again raised his arms during the queen stage of 179.1 km between Arques and the summit of Mont Cassel, ahead of in the sprint the Frenchman Paul Penhoet (Groupama-FDJ) and the Belgian Jenno Berckmoes (Lotto-Destiny). Bennett, at ease on the cobbles, allows his team to achieve an 18th success this season.

Also ahead of Penhoet (28 sec) and Berckmoes (31 sec) in the general classification, Bennett is more than ever in a position to win the 68th edition of the Quatre Jours and to succeed the Frenchman Romain Grégoire on the list, before the last stage on Sunday (176 .8 km) from Loon-Plage to Dunkirk.
