Prices are skyrocketing

The French are big fans of fruit juice. Unfortunately, in recent years, prices have been skyrocketing. The price of orange juice, for example, increased by an average of 11% in one year, from 2.50 euros to 2.80 euros. The price of apple juice is following the same path if we are to believe our colleagues at the Financial Times. The latter were interested in the world markets on which the price of orange juice and the price of apple juice concentrate are traded. They noted an increase in the price of apples for juice. The reason? Spring frosts which hampered yields in Poland, Europe’s leading producer of juice apples and a major exporter to the United States. As a result, for two years, the price has increased between 1.10% and 17%, depending on whether it is 100% pure juice or if it is based on concentrate.

Apple juice before orange juice?

Another reason explains this surge. Because the price of orange juice is reaching record prices, consumers have turned to more affordable, healthy and tasty alternatives. However, when the supply is the same, but the demand increases, mechanically, prices soar. Furthermore, inflation also has something to do with it since over the past two years, the price of energy and the price of packaging have increased. Result: the bottle costs more for the consumer. As a result, today, the consumer must pay around 1.20 euros per title, 1.80 euros for pure juice and 2.50 or even 3 euros for organic.

If orange juice remains the favorite fruit juice of the French, many households opt for apples. The problem ? If demand continues to increase, prices will follow the same path, because even if the bottle of apple juice costs more for the wallet, it remains below the price of orange juice.
