The race for the White House between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump continues at a frantic pace, three weeks before the presidential election in the United States. This time, it was over their respective state of health that the two candidates clashed.

Saturday October 12, Democrat Kamala Harris accused her rival Donald Trump of lack of transparency about her healthafter having published his own medical assessment, pointing out their almost 20 years of age difference.

The response from the 78-year-old candidate was not long in coming. On his X account, he believes it is “very important” that Kamala Harris takes a cognitive strength and agility test. “Her actions have led many people to think that there is something wrong with her,” he says, adding that she was “slow and lethargic when it comes to answering the easiest questions.” .

Donald Trump n’a did not fail to draw a parallel between the Democratic candidate and the current President of the United StatesJoe Biden. “We’ve just been through almost four years of this, we shouldn’t have to do it again!”, he concluded.

His campaign’s communications director, Steven Cheung, recalled, a few days earlier, that the Republican candidate has already voluntarily published several doctors’ reports which “all conclude that Donald Trump is in perfect and excellent health.” He referred, in particular, to a letter from his personal doctor reporting normal physical examination results and “exceptional” cognitive test results. But these exams already date back to September 2023.

If, on August 20, he declared that he would “gladly” publish his medical reports, “he did not do so”, underlines a spokesperson for the Democrat’s campaign, Ian Sams. “What is he hiding?”he asked, highlighting the former president’s refusal to debate again with Kamala Harris after their televised battle in September.

For her part, Kamala Harris assures that his opponent and his team “don’t want the American people to really see what [Donald Trump] done and knows whether or not he is actually suitable to fulfill the functions of President of the United States.” “He is unfit to exercise this mandate,” she assured.

Questions about Joe Biden’s age and declining abilities weighed down his campaignuntil the 81-year-old Democratic president threw in the towel in July after a disastrous debate against his Republican predecessor.

The issue has since rarely been discussed in the media and has not no notable influence on the polls, still extremely close. And this, despite the large age difference between the two candidates and Donald Trump’s ever more pronounced tendency towards digressions and disjointed speeches, as noted by the New York Times in a recent article. The vice-president would therefore like to bring the subject up to date, to the advantage of the Democrats this time.

As is tradition, the White House released Kamala Harris’ detailed medical report on Saturday, concluding that the 59-year-old candidate has “the physical and mental resistance necessary to fulfill the duties of the presidency” of the United States and is located “in excellent health”.

A Gallup opinion poll released October 10 indicates that 41% of voters consider Donald Trump too old to be presidentbarely four points more than in June, before Kamala Harris entered the running.
