While the Optimus robots made a splash at an event on October 10, it was revealed that they weren’t completely autonomous.

He can chat, take selfies and even pour drinks. During Tesla’s “We Robot” event on Thursday, October 10, Optimus impressed many. If some believed that these robots, presented as potential robotic servants, were completely autonomous, this was far from being the case.

Questioned by one of the people attending the car manufacturer’s presentation evening, one of these machines admitted that it was assisted by a human. “I’m not fully automated yet,” she replied.

A remotely controlled robot

Guests present at the party had already expressed their doubts about Optimus’ abilities. Robert Scoble, tech blogger and former Microsoft employee, for example, assured on X (formerly Twitter) that Tesla’s robots were assisted remotely by humans.

“To react to immediate demand, it still needs the presence of a human who controls it remotely,” said Bruno Guglielminetti, consultant and new technology blogger, on BFMTV.

According to the latter, Optimus is the most difficult robot to operate. However, Elon Musk hopes to make it the most requested product of all time. “I think that all the people among the 8 billion human beings on Earth are going to want their friend Optimus,” assured the Tesla boss.

The price of the humanoid robot, however, constitutes an obstacle. “We’re talking about a price between 20,000 and 30,000 dollars, but keep in mind that 20 years ago, Honda released its robot which was a bit humanoid. At the time, we were talking about something like 400,000 dollars so we see that the price has fallen”, explains Bruno Guglielminetti, recognizing that such a price is “not yet within the reach of all households”.
