What better way to end this year 2024 which was the 800th anniversary of the presence of the Dominican order in Lille than to invite the people of Lille to an evening of New Year at Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille Cathedral in Lille ? These are the Dominican friarswho will welcome you from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday December 31, 2024.

A New Year’s Eve like no other in Lille

It was in fact on December 21, 1224 that the convent of the preaching brothers of Lille was founded. The year which is ending was important in more than one way for the Dominicans of Lille since it saw the arrival of eight novices who strengthen the community and bring it the enthusiasm and ardor of youth.

On the night of December 31, the Dominican brothers of Lille will welcome you to Notre-Dame de la Treille Cathedral from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., to watch and celebrate the New Year together.

Come spend a few minutes or a few hours in their company, to pray, discuss, share and prepare yourself in sweetness, peace and hope for the year to come. 2025 will begin with the 57th World Day of Peace, established on January 1 by Paul VI in 1968, during which Pope Francis will address his traditional message to all men.

On the program:

• at 7 p.m.: solemn vespers sung by the brothers;
• at 7:30 p.m. – midnight: reception on the square with pancakes and drinks. Silent meditation, spiritual readings and chants in the cathedral, possibility of meeting a brother;
• at 12:15 a.m.: Mass of Saint Mary, Mother of God to usher in the new year.
