The municipalities of Essonne hit by floods between October 9 and 13 have until October 17 to request recognition of the state of natural disaster.

A measure to help disaster victims. A procedure for recognizing the state of accelerated natural disaster has been put in place in Essonne, indicated the prefect of the department on Monday October 14, after last week’s floods.

The procedure is open to all municipalities in the department affected by floods, runoff or floods which occurred between Wednesday October 9 and Sunday October 13.

The municipalities have until October 17 at 5 p.m. to submit their file, an interministerial commission being scheduled for Tuesday October 22. All the information can be found on the Essonne prefecture website.

Aid released by the region

Several municipalities in Essonne were hit by significant flooding due to the passage of the Kirk depression across the country. Several rivers have seen their levels increase, such as the Yvette or the Orge.

The Vallée campus of -Saclay University (communes of Orsay, Bures and Gif-sur-Yvette) was notably flooded, forcing the cancellation of courses. Still in Gif-sur-Yvette, a college must remain closed until the All Saints’ Day holidays due to the damage.

Friday October 11, Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Île-de- region, announced the release of aid and an upward revision of the envelope of 1.6 million euros, already planned for the bad weather last August.
