Dakar, Oct 14 (APS) – Judge Ricardo Claúdio Monteiro Gonçalves was appointed Monday as head of the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for a two-year term, learned about the organization’s APS.
The Cape Verdean magistrate was notably appointed by a panel of five judges to replace the Ghanaian Edward Amoako Asante, who headed the Court for six years, indicated the communication division of this community court in a note sent to the APS.
The panel of five judges at the same time appointed Sierra Leonean judge Sengu Mohamed Koroma, vice-president of the ECOWAS Court of Justice.
The new president of the Court of Justice, shortly after his election, recalled the importance of the mandate entrusted to this jurisdiction by the ECOWAS texts, insisting on the need to maintain the mission of the institution as an independent court, reliable, efficient and accessible.
”He expressed his commitment to fostering continuous dialogue with other ECOWAS institutions and agencies, Member States, civil societies, among others, while ensuring prudent financial management of the institution’s funds”, the court’s communications division said.
