Alexandre Rouquette appears before the Assize Court of Cayenne, in Guyana, ruling on military matters. On April 28, 2021, early in the morning, he stabbed the commander several times in his office. Franck Ramblado had escaped but his vital prognosis had been compromised for a while. He was hit several times in the back and lung. His attacker was arrested immediately, very relaxed, singing bawdy songs.
Interviewed, he explained the facts by the harassment he said he suffered from Franck Ramblado. Alexandre Rouquette in particular could not stand the commanding officer asking him to pick up cigarette butts. During this episode, an altercation occurred and the accused was punished.
Furthermore, Alexandre Rouquette explains that he suffers from post-traumatic syndrome following a mission in 2013 in the Central African Republic. And indicates that on the day of the events, he woke up in a daze having visions of the dead commander. “I only had visions of that, of seeing him die violently, he was getting hit in the head with machetes, his face was dislocated,” he explained. The psychiatric expert also believes that his discernment was impaired at the time of the events and may have hindered the control of his actions. Finally, several testimonies indicate conflicting relations between the two men.
Franck Ramblado will be defended at the hearing by Angoumois lawyer Lionel Béthune de Moro.
