The completion of the tram line planned between Plan-les-Ouates and Saint-Julien-en-Genevois (F) is currently blocked at the Federal Administrative Court, seized by an appeal from seventeen opponents. They contest the planned route to Perly, a Geneva village located between the two aforementioned localities. On Tuesday, the rebels gathered in an association held a public meeting to present their grievances and their proposal for an alternative route.
The appellants, most of whom are traders, are against the creation of a separate road for the Saint-Julien road, from which private motorized traffic would be banned. According to “Le Messager”, they consider that this option will kill businesses located along the axis, including six gas stations and restaurants. Furthermore, they refuse the downgrading of 40,000 m2 of agricultural land, planned to build a bypass road.
The association is proposing an alternative route to the authorities: it would like to route the tram via the Certoux road, lined with homes, but devoid of businesses. “It is never too late to stop and do the right thing,” say opponents.
