When a man is found dead, behind the wheel of his burnt-out car in the countryside, the young, recently transferred gendarmerie captain, Mathilde Delboscq (Joyce Bibring) quickly understands that it is a homicide even if the staging wants to make it look like suicide. The autopsy reveals that Pascal Dubreuil, a local entrepreneur, was under the influence of a powerful sleeping pill. However, this father of two children leads a seemingly uneventful life with Isabelle (Odile Vuillemin), a florist in a small town in the South of France. This woman in her forties had a passionate, even close, relationship with her husband for twelve years. She is in shock, who can blame her husband?

I am innocent!

keeps proclaiming Isabelle (Odile Vuillemin)

Who is Isabelle?
The investigation, led by the young captain, does not exclude anyone from Pascal’s entourage. She sets out to verify each alibi and discover the victim’s well-hidden secrets of which, it seems, even his wife knew nothing. Isabelle Dubreuil has a son from a previous marriage, but he does not live with her. Initially appalled by the death of her husband, she quickly takes on the posture of the victim when Captain Mathilde Delboscq interferes a little too much in the privacy of her couple.
Accustomed to lying since childhood, she plays games with those she meets. She is so intriguing that we no longer know who she really is. Mother with a quiet life or seductress fighting for survival? Victim or executioner? Understanding the psychological functioning of this cold and calculating character is what gendarmerie captain Mathilde Delboscq seeks. But this young investigator has no idea, when she is called to the scene of the tragedy, that she will encounter the affair of her career, even of her life.

Loosely inspired by a case that occurred in Drôme in the 2000s.
