UEFA does not like complaints from top earners like Kevin De Bruyne

“They don’t take the players into account, maybe it is time for a strike,” said Kevin De Bruyne. His teammate Rodri shared that opinion. Virgil van Dijk ditto.

At a meeting of the European Clubs’ Association, the representative of professional clubs in Europe, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin addressed this issue.

“We have to recognize that the competition calendar is at full capacity,” Ceferin said. “The limits have been reached. The impact is very different between clubs and players. Some clubs and players are overloaded, other clubs have overcapacity.”

Ceferin points to the clubs that do or do not play European football. Or clubs that have fewer internationals in their selection.

“I would also like to add this to my story: who is complaining? The players with the highest salaries and the clubs with the most top players. The players who do not earn much and the clubs that have difficulty fielding a strong team do not complain. They love to play football.”

Bayern Munich director Jan-Christian Dreesen is also critical of the strike threat. “It is not right that we are threatened by people who are at the top in terms of income. There are many other footballers who don’t talk about it.”
