Automotive journalist Louis-Philippe Dubé, who was able to drive the famous vehicle during a stay in the United States, says that the $140,000 car “drives better than it looks.”

The latter has a very strange appearance to respond to certain issues.

“At Tesla, we always do something different, always something innovative. And it created this curiosity, the Cybertruck which is made of stainless steel, he explains. Tesla itself says it on its site that the bodywork is there to reduce the risk of corrosion in the long term.

However, this resistance to rust can be undermined by certain climatic conditions, nuance Mr. Dubé.

“I have my doubts that the Quebec winter may have some surprises in store for this body,” he says.

Technology for maneuverability

Driving the Cybertruck in urban areas and maneuvering in small spaces went well, he said.

“It’s a vehicle that has all kinds of little technologies that contribute to its ride and handling,” he describes.

Elon Musk’s gem also offers beautiful acceleration sequences for sports vehicle lovers.

“At Tesla, we are masters in the art of making electric powertrains and batteries whose performance is unmatched,” said Louis-Philippe Dubé.

It is really in terms of visibility that the vehicle has lost points, according to the journalist from the Car Guide.

“We don’t see much, despite all the glass surface. […] I found it really bad. On the other hand, the camera system helps with visibility,” he laments.

Matching the competition?

The Cybertruck will have difficulty doing well with the arrival on the market of the Ford Lightning and the Chevrolet Silverado.

“The Cybertruck, I find that compared to an F-150 Lightning, it is made for watching, having fun and playing,” says Mr. Dubé.

The latter believes that Tesla’s truck presents numerous constraints.

“His body, for example, has a completely different shape. It’s a six-foot body, but it’s not as practical as a body of an F-150 Lightning,” the journalist compares.

In his opinion, the interior lacks a bit of finish for a $140,000 vehicle.

“It’s very pale,” he describes.

Remember that Tesla’s Cybertruck truck can be ordered in Canada since August 2024.
