French President Emmanuel Macron does not like that Emily from the popular series ‘Emily in Paris’ is now sipping cappuccinos in Rome. “We are going to fight to bring her back.”
French President Emmanuel Macron is an unabashed fan of it Emily in Paristhe popular series about an insufferable American expat, Emily, who settles in a pastel-colored Paris. Macron said Variety that he was very proud that his wife Brigitte (71) had been given a cameo in the series, which follows the unrealistic antics of a marketing company. “It was only a few minutes, but she did a very good job. She was allowed to improvise and wear whatever she wanted.”
When asked whether the president himself had also been asked for a cameo, he replied: “I’m not as attractive as Brigitte!” But now that the fourth season is set in Rome, he is concerned. “We are going to ask Netflix to continue filming in Paris. Emily in Rome doesn’t make any sense at all,” he said.

In terms of soft power, that can count. Because although the series is of varying quality, it is a gold mine for French tourism, Macron admits. A survey for the French National Center for Cinema and Animation (CNC) this year found that around 38 percent of tourists cited the series as one of the reasons for visiting Paris. Place de Valois, where Emily’s marketing agency is located, Opéra Garnier and Gabriël’s restaurant are especially popular hotspots. It is not yet known whether Rome also benefits from the ‘Emily effect’.
