“Mary of Denmark hits hard!” »: at the state dinner, the queen gets everyone to agree

Kate Middleton is far from the only royal who is a fan of upcycling outfits. A practice totally in tune with the times and commendable, because it is eco-responsible. Prince William’s wife has done it on at least 25 occasions listed by Gala in 2022. The trend she helped popularize has since crossed borders. More recently, it was Queen Mary of Denmark who made an impression during a state dinner at Christiansborg Castle where she appeared this Tuesday, October 8 with a dress already worn two decades earlier. A highly applauded virtuous practice.

“The queen of recycling strikes again! Queen Mary has become a master in the art of recycling and especially in the art of giving new life to clothes”commented the expert on the Norwegian royal house Caroline Vagle in the columns of See and Hear. “Because even if she is wearing – like here – a skirt that is almost 20 years old, it has nothing to do with old rags”continued the specialist. Mary from Denmark wore the same dark blue skirt from Oscar de la Renta in 2005 during a state visit to Australia.

Mary from Denmark is not new to recycling looks

It wasn’t just the queen’s skirt that was recycled, the Jesper Høvring brand top as well. Mary of Denmark had already worn it several times. But just because you wear clothes several times doesn’t mean you’re not in the game, quite the contrary. “She has a great fashion sense and always looks fresh. She mixes and matches and loves to sew”explained royal expert Caroline Vagle in the interview she gave to See and Hear. As reported by the Danish website BT, a year earlier, Mary from Denmark had already recycled one of her outfits during the Spanish state visit. “The Crown Princess wore the dress she sewed for her 50th birthday and used it for the New Year’s party the following year. And she’s wearing it again now”designer Jesper Høvring then explained.
