According to the Greek police, there are no indications that malicious intent was involved in the sudden death of football international George Baldock. The 31-year-old Panathinaikos defender was found dead in the swimming pool of his home on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Greek government explained that a forensic pathologist examined the body but found no signs of criminal activity. In addition, the player’s house was searched by a specialized team, but this found no traces of burglary.

Baldock was born in Buckingham, England and, through his grandmother, also had Greek nationality. He signed a three-season contract with Panathinaikos in May. Before that, he played football for Sheffield United for seven years.

In 2022, Baldock made his debut for the Greek national team. He had twelve caps to his name.

To honor the deceased footballer, a minute’s silence will be held on Thursday evening before the Nations League match between England and Greece. The players of both teams will also play football with a black mourning band.
