The authorities of the Assembly wanted to be reassuring regarding the continuity of parliamentary work.
Depression Kirk hit the capital this Wednesday evening, the exceptional weather event which broke all rainfall records for over a century. The day was the rainiest ever recorded since 1920. The consequences of this torrential rain were felt even in the highest places of the Republic.
In the heart of Paris, the National Assembly took on water. The cause? A failure in the water evacuation system, probably due to the unusual intensity of precipitation associated with the passage of the Kirk depression.
The alert was given at the end of the evening, creating a surreal scene within the Palais Bourbon. The deputies still present witnessed a spectacle that was unusual to say the least: a real indoor waterfall, transforming the premises into an improvised aquarium.
“On the verge of taking out the swimsuit”
Faced with this unusual situation, some parliamentarians did not lack humor. On social networks, ironic comments poured in.
“After the government, it’s the Assembly that takes on the water!”, joked François Ruffin (NFP) on X.
Another elected official, Jérôme Buisson (RN), made a humorous connection with the presence of a former president: “since Hollande became a deputy, the rain even follows us inside.”
MP Bérenger Cernon (LFI) said he was “on the verge of taking out his swimsuit”.

Fortunately, emergency services quickly took control of the situation. A large team of firefighters was mobilized to control the flooding and limit the damage.
The authorities of the Assembly, through the voice of the quaestor Brigitte Klinkert, wanted to be reassuring about the continuity of parliamentary work, promising that all necessary measures would be taken to overcome this unforeseen climatic incident.
