Aubameyang wins the Marc-Vivien Foé prize for the second time

The Marc-Vivien Foé prize remains in Marseille. A year after Chancel Mbemba’s coronation, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was elected best African player in the championship by a jury brought together by organizers RFI and France 24. The 34-year-old Gabonese obtained 252 points from a panel of around 80 voters . He is ahead of Achraf Hakimi (PSG, 136 pts) and Nabil Bentaleb (Lille, 112 pts). This is the second time that the former Gunner has won the prize after 2013, when he played for AS Saint-Etienne. He is also the second player after Gervinho (2010, 2011) to win the Marc-Vivien Foé prize twice.

“I am very happy and very proud to win this prize. It is the second time, obviously after so many years, to come back to France and win this prize again is an enormous Source of pride. It is just as gratifying. I’m very happy with the journey since then. It’s the culmination of this season and I hope to get an African Ballon d’Or,” responded Marseille’s top scorer to RFI.

Top scorer in the Europa League this season

For his return to France last summer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wore OM several times this year. The Gabonese is involved in 38 goals in 48 matches played with the Phocéens this season (29 goals, 11 assists), notably in the Europa League, a competition in which he is the top scorer despite the elimination of Marseille in the semi-final against ‘Atalanta Bergamo (10 goals, three more than Lukaku).

In the championship, “Aubam” has just scored a double against Lorient on Sunday evening at the Vélodrome during the 33rd day (3-1), allowing his team to continue to believe in European qualification. While OM have two matches to play (in Reims and Le Havre), 6th and 7th place, occupied by Lens and Lyon, are only three points away.
