Jean-Paul Taupina prominent figure in Sillé-le-Guillaume (), East deceased following a long illness. He leaves the memory of a man who gave a lot of his time for others.

We knew Jean-Paul Taupin was very tired lately. Unfortunately, a long illness got the better of him on Tuesday October 8, at the age of 75. He leaves behind his wife Paulette, his three children and four grandchildren. And a city in mourning to which he devoted many years of his life.

Jean-Paul was a Silléan at heart. He did his schooling in Sillean land. After the public nursery school, rue de Mayenne, and the municipal school, place du Château, he went to the Collège du Château. His mathematics teacher was a certain Michel Bottier, another local figure who was notably mayor of Sillé-le-Guillaume.

A man of character

“Michel Bottier made me love maths,” Jean-Paul told us during an interview published in the columns of Alpes Mancelles, on February 28, 2021. “Jean-Paul,” confides Gérard Galpin, mayor of Sillé, especially loved History and particularly that of Sillé-le-Guillaume. He knew everyone and knew almost everything about Sillé. In short, he was the memory of Sillé. I called him from time to time to ask him for information about local life. He was happy to be of service to me. For around forty years, he was a real player in the town of Sillé-le-Guillaume, getting involved in the associative fabric, notably on the Promotion Committee with the late Guy Barrier, then with Sylvine Roullier. In this context, he delighted the visitors with his famous Sillean butters. We lived together for an entire term during the era of Jean-Marie Hoguet as mayor. Jean-Paul was in charge of works and heritage and I was in charge of sport. It was a great experience. Obviously, when I learned of his death, even knowing that he was ill, I was shocked. I’m sad. »

The first magistrate of the commune will remember Jean-Paul as “a man passionate about Sillé and cars, particularly the 24 Hours. He was curious and helpful.” The mayor of Sillé knew very well that “Jean Paul had character, but knew how to surpass himself to reach out to others. He had one great quality: he didn’t hold grudges.”

Three professions

Professionally, Jean-Paul followed his parents’ path. The latter were bakers in Sillé-le-Guillaume, at 7, Grande Rue. He worked in the family business until 1976 before changing careers. Turns out he was allergic to flour.

He then opted for livestock feed at Prodhomme Guyomard, in Sillé, which became the Huttepin Group, until 1983. Then, until his retirement (2006), he worked in Ségrie, processing household waste with the Véolia Group.

A man involved in local life

At the associative level, he joined the Sillé festival committee with Jean-Michel Hoguet. Then, he was vice-president of the Tourist Office.

Jean-Paul was, for several years, president of the UNC AFN-Soldats de , succeeding Gérard Couturier. He loved passing on to young people the duty of memory that was close to his heart. “For health reasons, a few months ago, he had to resign,” says Gérard Galpin.

At the municipal level, Jean was for two mandates, councilor with Jackie Charrié, one mandate also as councilor with Michel Bottier and u

n last deputy mandate with Jean-Marie Hoguet. During the first three mandates, Jean Paul took care of the flowering.

He wanted to take time for his family

“He didn’t want to show up with me. After 25 years on the city council, he wanted to devote more time to his family. It was completely understandable,” concludes Gérard Galpin.

The Alpes Mancelles editorial staff sends its sincere condolences to the family of Jean-Paul Taupin.

The religious ceremony will take place on Monday, October 14, at 10 a.m., at thechurch ofe Sillé-le-Guillaume.
