Kastriot Imeri: “I was at my lowest”

Kastriot Imeri had not set foot on the Super League pitches since September. The young Genevan from YB had to undergo an operation due to a torn knee. He has now returned to the game, and tells us about his long months of convalescence.

Last September, Kastriot Imeri injured his right knee and was away from the field for several weeks. In November, the 23-year-old from Geneva suffered a relapse in training and was forced to undergo surgery for a tear in the external ligament in the same knee.

In total, the midfielder was deprived of competition for eight months, before returning last weekend during the success (2-0) of Young Boys on the pitch of FC Zurich. “It was a complicated, very complicated period. I don’t wish any player to have such long-term major injuries,” Imeri recalled for “blue Sport”.

“I became a little more professional”

“I have never had any serious injuries in my life. It’s the worst I’ve had in my life. I think I was at my lowest, but without really feeling it, because I was still quite close to the team. I preferred to do my rehabilitation at the club and not elsewhere. My family was still there, my friends too. This is what allowed me to not really stay down,” explained the player trained at Servette FC.

The latter felt that this ordeal had made him grow. “I think I became a little more professional. I take more care of my body than before,” admitted Imeri, who now wants to rediscover the “pleasure of getting my feet back on the field.” And why not from Saturday, during the reception of FC Lugano at Wankdorf?
