Update on Tuesday, October 8:

Météo- services are keeping the department on “Rain-Flood” vigilance until 10 a.m. today as well as on yellow “Thunderstorms” vigilance until 2 p.m. today.

A yellow “Rain-Flood” vigilance is planned for Tuesday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

State anddevelopments in the situation
Since yesterday and until this morning, 192 mm of rain on Grand Combe, 160 mm to 170 mm on Saint-Jean-du-Gard were recorded. Intensities of 70 to 100 mm per hour were observed in this sector. The emergency services did not carry out any intervention.
The rainy event which has affected the department since yesterday evening continues until the end of the morning.

60 mm of rain is still expected in the Cévennes and 40 mm in Pièmont and the plains until the end of the morning.
Current intensities are 10 to 20 mm/h.
Yellow vigilance is maintained on the watercourses and more particularly on Les Gardons and La Cèze whose maximum coast has not been reached. Several submersible bridges are already closed and the situation continues to evolve. People should not go down these paths. A landslide was noted on the D983.
The guards are therefore called to be extremely vigilant.

Strong winds sweep the south of the department (60 km/h), generating dangerous waves of 2 m to 2.20 m. They will strengthen tomorrow to reach 3 m with risk of submersion.

Monday October 7:

Météo-France services are placing the Gard department on yellow “Rain-Flood” vigilance this evening, from 6 p.m. to 12 p.m. tomorrow, as well as a yellow “Thunderstorm” vigilance, today from 8 p.m. to 2 p.m., tomorrow.

An orange “Rain-Flood” alert is also expected from 10 p.m. this evening until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Developments
From this Monday evening, the rains intensify in the Cévennes around 10 p.m., which can also take on a stormy character. But it is especially in the second part of the night from Monday to Tuesday and early Tuesday morning that the highest intensities of rain are expected, which can reach around 100 mm in 3 hours.

These heavy rains can also temporarily extend to the plains of Gard in the second part of the night from Monday to Tuesday and early morning of Tuesday, although with lower accumulations (30 to 40 mm/h).

Thus, over the entire episode, between Monday evening and Tuesday morning (i.e. around 12 p.m.), the cumulative rainfall risks locally approaching 150 to 200 mm, or even locally 200 mm on the edge of the Ardèche.

Dangerous waves, up to 2.50 m tonight, are forecast on the Gard coastline for the duration of the meteorological episode.

The rain-storm disturbance evacuates from the east late Tuesday morning. There is no expected stationary phenomenon.

The rivers of Gard are placed on yellow alert for a flood phenomenon (see their evolution on vigicrues.gouv.fr.

Instructions to the population

> Limit your travel.

> Never enter a submerged or partially submerged traffic lane.

> Do not cross a submersible bridge or ford if it is closed or begins to be submerged.
