The body of a woman with marks of violence was discovered in Sainte-Catherine, in Montérégie. The circumstances of his death remain “nebulous” according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which is not ruling out any hypothesis for the moment.

Around 2 a.m. in the night from Saturday to Sunday, police officers from the Roussillon intermunicipal police department were called to go to a housing unit located on Union Street, in Sainte-Catherine, following the discovery of the inanimate body. of a woman. He was pronounced dead on the spot and the victim had signs of violence.

“The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear,” indicates Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, information officer for the SQ. Investigators from the crimes against the person division, accompanied by a forensic identification technician and a dog handler, went to the site to analyze the scene.

This is a suspicious death: it is therefore the SQ which took charge of the case, in close collaboration with the Roussillon intermunicipal police authority, in order to shed light on the causes and circumstances surrounding the event.

A suspect was arrested by police and transported to hospital. He will be met by investigators when his condition allows, in order to clarify his involvement in the case.

“At this stage, all hypotheses are considered,” underlines Élizabeth Marquis-Guy. “The circumstances of the event raise questions” as to whether or not it was feminicide, she specifies. The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not yet been revealed.
