Since 2022, attacks have intensified as May 9 approaches

Russian nighttime attacks killed a 65-year-old woman in a village in the southern Kherson region of Bilozerka and injured three other people, according to the local prosecutor’s office.

One person was injured in the Dnipropetrovsk region, two in Brovary, near kyiv, and at least two others in the capital. An 8-year-old child was also injured in the Kirovograd region, Governor Andriï Raikovych said on Telegram.

Russia has also been bombing Ukraine’s energy network for months, causing significant damage and large-scale power cuts.

kyiv says Moscow has stepped up its air and ground attacks in the run-up to Russia’s May 9 national celebrations, and to take advantage of the arms shortage in Ukraine, which is awaiting the arrival of crucial arms supplies including from the United States.

For decades, Moscow’s annual May 9 parade was not so much a memorial to victory over Nazi Germany in World War II as a carefully choreographed display of power.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, the Kremlin has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine in the run-up to Victory Day to support its propaganda efforts – seeking to give Putin something to boast about during of his annual speech on Red Square.
