The golden month of September, dedicated to the fight against childhood, adolescent and young adult cancers, ended on the afternoon of the 1is October 2024, with a debate show.

The La Belle Histoire company was invited, by the Indre Committee of the League Against Cancer chaired by Doctor François Christiann, to present its show at the Déols socio-cultural center.

The play describing the irruption of cancer into the carefree life of a teenager was performed in front of 340 people. An audience made up mainly of learners from training institutes for nurses, caregivers and ambulance drivers (Ifsi, Ifas and Ifa) at Châteauroux hospital.

The personal and family earthquake caused by the announcement of a malignant illness and the course of treatments were described in a quasi-analytical manner, with great realism, while maintaining a beautiful balance and a lot of humor. The difficulties and behaviors of each character allowed many people in the audience to recognize themselves, and revealed legitimate emotional reactions.

The performance was followed by a very educationally oriented exchange by the Company’s facilitator between the students, Doctor Julien Lejeune (onco-pediatrician at the CHRU of , researcher at Inserm); Emilie Nicault (medical oncology nurse at Châteauroux hospital, recently arrived from Dr Lejeune’s department); Eugénie Aubard (advanced practice nurse) and Dr. Christiann.

Two performances at Beaulieu College

The play was very popular, rich in scenarios of daily situations and elements that could be used for educational purposes in the various promotions present. The event was organized and financed by the Departmental Committee of the League Against Cancer, enhanced by a moment of conviviality offered by the Ifsi.

This event was preceded, the day before, by two performances at Beaulieu College, making it possible to deliver these messages to students in schools. Cancers in children, adolescents, and young adults represent approximately 2,000 to 2,500 cases per year, and lead to 500 of these children being diagnosed.

The League against Cancer, present at each stage of a life journey, remains available alongside patients and their entourage who express the need: financial aid, supportive care (three areas of the League will soon be accessible in the department), fun action aimed at young people in particular.
