“Capital failure”, “Not up to par”… The European press is not kind to Paris and Mbappé

The European press is not kind to Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé after the disappointing elimination in the Champions League semi-final against Dortmund.

The same refrain, over and over again. This is the meaning of what the European press wrote after the elimination of Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the Champions League, Tuesday evening against Dortmund (0-2 in aggregate). “PSG still not up to par,” writes the Daily Mail, pointing to “another Parisian nightmare” on the European scene.

The Guardian, for its part, insists on the management of PSG: “Paris allowed itself to be overcome by emotion, driven by despair”. In Catalonia, the daily Sport evokes a “major failure of PSG and Mbappé”. If everyone agrees to highlight the lack of success of the Parisians, who received six times the amounts in two meetings, Kylian Mbappé crystallizes a large part of the analyzes.

“His legacy will be these kinds of nights, so near and so far, for seven years of trying and failing,” laments the Daily Mail. “Mbappé incapable of donning the hero’s costume,” writes Sport. For Mundo Deportivo, another Catalan media, “Mbappé’s time has passed”. Only the German media are more sober, highlighting only the performances of Mats Hummels and coach Edin Terzic.

“He will not reign over Europe… by playing in Paris”

In Madrid, on the other hand, Kylian Mbappé’s last Champions League match in the Parisian jersey did not bring much sadness. The Frenchman should indeed play next season for Real Madrid, which would almost make some smile. “Without the Champions League and without Mbappé”, headlines the daily AS.

“Mbappé bids farewell to the French capital with more pain than glory,” explains the Madrid daily, speaking of a “tragedy in Paris”. Marca goes even further, speaks of the “shipwreck of Mbappé” and adds: “Mbappé is falling again. He still does not have glory. He will not reign over Europe… playing in Paris.”
