Asked this Tuesday about the importance of Rudy Gobert, Chris Finch was complimentary towards his pivot, who became a father overnight. His absence is not felt. The Timberwolves easily disposed of Denver in round 2 of the play-offs (106-80).

It was from the hospital that Rudy Gobert must have heard his ears ringing during the night from Monday to Tuesday. And for good reason, his coach spoke highly of him at a press conference. “Rudy has established a defensive culture here. And, you know, I think that’s a testament to his impact, to his presence. And what he instilled in the team about how important defense is and how good we can be when we practice it.said Chris Finch.

The Frenchman is also one of three players nominated for the title of regular season defender, which will be awarded on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. He is alongside Bam Adebayo (Miama) and his young compatriot, Victor Wembanyama, elected rookie. The latter clearly sees Gobert obtaining the personal distinction: “Rudy has a very good chance of winning it this year, and it would be deserved.

An absence that was not felt

At the hospital bedside of his wife, who gave birth, Rudy Gobert was not there last night. An absence which did not prevent his family from unfolding. The Minnesota Timberwolves put together a defensive display on the floor of champion Denver for a large 106-80 success which allows them to lead 2-0 in the series before two home matches. The Wolves completely prevented the Nuggets from developing their offense, with sticky, tireless and mobile defenders contesting every shot
