I tested the DJI Power 1000 charging station, what is this accessible nomadic solution worth?

DJI, initially recognized for its high-end drones, has brilliantly evolved beyond its aeronautical cradle. A pioneer of the modern era, this Chinese colossus has boldly ventured into creating a wide range of wearable technologies. The brand, synonymous with innovation, has integrated products as diverse as action cams, stabilizers and other microphones into its arsenal, thus expanding its footprint in the technological world. Expansion continues and DJI adds a new string to its bow with the launch of its portable charging stations, the DJI Power 500 and DJI Power 1000, offered at unbeatable prices. We tested the DJI Power 1000 with a solar panel kit for a week and here is our verdict on this new masterpiece from DJI.

DJI is tackling a new sector: portable batteries

The DJI Power 1000 is presented in a simple rectangular design with a display and on either side the different sockets and controls. As usual, DJI was able to present its product and keep excellent overall ergonomics. The indications on the screen are very clear and give no confusion about the current status of the machine. As for the sockets, it has two Schuko sockets on the left side and a series of USB-A and USB-C sockets on the other, offering a power ranging from 24W up to 140W for the latest generation of sockets which even Apple had to comply with recently. A switch also allows you to choose the available power between 600A to 1200A. If you also have the solar panel kit from the same manufacturer, the inverter can be screwed directly onto the right side while keeping the device compact. In terms of weight, the whole thing weighs 13 kg.

It also has SDC outputs specially designed for DJI drones in the Matrice 30, Mavic 3, Inspire 3 and Air 3 range. The DJI Power 1000 can be recharged from the mains, solar panels or from a car. With its multiple security sensors, it combines power and discretion with a noise level of only 23 dB for a relatively light weight of 13 kg, ergonomic handles make it easy to transport the battery both indoors and outdoors. However, we would have liked a system of clip-on casters allowing the whole thing to roll.

Autonomy and versatility: the DJI Power 1000 experience in real conditions

We tested the DJI Power 1000 in several real-world situations by putting ourselves in the shoes of a potential customer. We have already carried out several drone sessions to test the DJI Power 1000 in real situations, with intensive recharges, in addition to charging the drones, many devices such as computers, Steam Deck gaming console and other peripherals varied like smartphones.

For extreme situations, it proves very effective, particularly for adding a few kilometers of range to an electric car.

I tested the DJI Power 1000 charging station, what is this accessible nomadic solution worth?

It was the perfect setting for a typical use of this type of product, far from everything and spending a long time away from any conventional electrical Source. The product brilliantly met our expectations. We have repeatedly recharged our devices without ever fearing the exhaustion of its energy reserve. The solar panels prove to be a valuable help in preventing the DJI Power 1000 from running out of power. The solar panels were capable of absorbing part of the battery drainage, here of around 90W in bright sunshine. Adding a solar panel kit considerably enriches your nomadic experience by harnessing solar energy. It is possible to add up to 3 solar panel kits to the DJI Power 1000. The solar panels are sold separately from €657 on the DJI website for two solar panels.

…or to reload a ride-on tractor.

With a single solar panel kit and in optimal sunshine conditions, you can achieve an input power of approximately 80 to 100 W. Although lower than the maximum supportable capacity of 800W, this power is enough to keep the station charged throughout the day, ensuring continued use of your connected devices. This solution is also insurance during emergencies such as power outages, providing a reliable Source of power for your essential equipment.

The Power 1000 comes with a carrying case which also doubles as storage for all supplied cables, with convenient zipped openings for front entry/exits and side vents. The back pocket is even roomy enough to fit a laptop while it charges.

As is the case with all cases designed by DJI, the quality is undeniably there, and we don’t expect them to deteriorate or break anytime soon. However, for optimal ventilation during charging, it might be best to remove the device from the case. Although the device didn’t reach uncomfortable heat, it was still a bit warmer than expected. This might become a concern if you’re charging the device outside on a hot summer day, but it shouldn’t be a problem inside your home.

Or obviously drones!

We also tested the DJI Power 1000 in an office setting by simulating a power outage, and we were particularly impressed with its ability to endure heavy use. Connected to a gaming computer, it managed to power the device as well as a 26-inch screen and a Starlink kit for 6 consecutive hours. For those who live in areas likely to experience frequent power outages, the DJI Power 1000 proves to be a valuable ally, allowing you to maintain a level of comfort and connectivity close to that of a stable electrical environment.

Cooldown

I tested the DJI Power 1000 charging station, what is this accessible nomadic solution worth?

When connected to the power grid, the DJI Power 1000 impresses with its ability to fully recharge in just 70 minutes, thanks to its input power of 1200 W (possible to reduce to 600 W). This speed is particularly useful for those who need to leave quickly with a fully operational charging station. With solar panels, the charging time will be much longer and variable depending on the number of panels you have and the weather conditions. Solar panels do not really have the function of recharging the batteries, but of reducing their drainage and thus maintaining an even longer autonomy. But in case of non-use of the battery followed by 3 solar panels and good exposure, allow 5 to 6 hours for a complete recharge.

Conclusion

Strong points

  • Unfailing robustness
  • Its ergonomics
  • Its versatility
  • More than satisfactory autonomy
  • Its ultra-fast charging speed
  • The solar panel kit to go further

Weak points

  • Heats up when the DJI Power is in its protective cover

With its diversity of connectors, this positions the DJI Power 1000 as an essential tool for anyone looking for a reliable and versatile energy solution while on the go. This station transcends usual expectations and becomes a mainstay for anyone who wants to explore or work without the constraints of a static power supply. DJI, with this product, does not just follow market developments; the company is ahead of them and redefining them, giving everyone the freedom to stay fully connected and operational, wherever their adventure takes them. Whether for daily use or for missions in remote areas, the DJI Power 1000 stands out as a solution that meets the modern challenges of mobility and energy autonomy. It embodies DJI’s commitment to constant innovation, thus confirming its position as a leader in the technological field.
