3 Ted Lassoon Apple TV+

The Office, Brooklyn 99, My Uncle Charlie, How I Met Your Mother… Many good quality comedy series have made the mistake of bowing out far too late. A mistake that Bill Lawrence (the man behind Spin City and the last series in this ranking), Joe Kelly, Brendan Hunt and Jason Sudeikis, the creators (and in the case of the last one interprets it) of Ted Lasso.

In just three seasons, the small screen’s most mustachioed sports coach has managed to find his way into the hearts of the fictional football team AFC Richmond and spectators. Because it is undoubtedly in its optimism and its message filled with hope that the show stands out from the others.

It tells the story of the eponymous hero, Ted. This American football coach finds himself at the heart of the machination of the formidable Rebecca Welton (played by Hannah Waddingham, mainly known to us for having rung her bell during Cersei Lannister’s walk of shame in Game Of Thrones). The latter is counting on the ineptitude of the sports coach to ruin her ex-husband’s football team. In addition to his contagious good humor, Ted Lasso also shines with its endearing choral casting.

2 Monty Python’s Flying Circuson Netflix

Of The Mad Hotel has The Black Viper Passing by Spaced, English humor has shined through its numerous television experiments. It must be said that the small screen has always been at the heart of British culture. At a time when Britain’s greatest actors were heading to Hollywood to pursue careers, many artists realized they would not be able to match the glorious cinema of Uncle Sam. So they had to focus their attention elsewhere: television. This is why the BBC began to shine for the quality of its programs, a heritage which is still felt in modern English series.

It was in this context that a joyous troupe arrived composed of Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam. And “disembark” is a more than appropriate verb when it comes to describing Monty Python. The latter in fact presented their program to the channel without themselves knowing what it would contain, and revolutionized the world of comedy by proposing a television UFO.

The wind of freedom blowing through the end of the 1960s can be felt in each of the sketches in this Flying Circus, which does not respond to any rule or dictate, and certainly not that of common sense. Whether it’s this series or cult films such as Holy Grail Or Brian’s life (all available on Netflix), Monty Python’s absurd comedy left an indelible mark that is still felt in contemporary culture.

1 Scrubson Disney+

If we had to list the places that make us laugh the most, the cold corridors of hospitals would probably be very low on the list. However, this is what this sitcom created by Bill Lawrence proposed to do. This medical series narrated in the first person follows the daily life of JD (played by Zach Braff), an awkward young medical intern who finds himself confronted with the realities of daily life in the hospital.

And the least we can say is that his long studies could not prepare him for what awaited him. Because Scrubs Although it is one of the most hilarious American shows, it also manages to surprise its spectators with moments of intense emotion.

Only a handful of tragic moments strike all eight seasons (the ninth being a spin-off focused on other characters), but they have more impact than if they were handled in any dramatic narrative. Because the hospital remains the ideal place to question the meaning of life, death or even destiny.

All these philosophical questions are addressed with great humor and sincerity in this series often considered by many members of American medical personnel as the closest to the realities of their work. However, there should be no mistake, Scrubs remains a hilarious production which will put a smile on the face of the most depressed. This is why we prescribe it without moderation.
