Quimperlé likes Bigard. The opposite is more difficult to assert. But the company, created by Lucien Bigard, seems well anchored in the region. Which reassures communities. “It’s an asset to have these major clients here, particularly when the head offices are located in the region, like Bigard,” recalled Yves Bernicot, vice-president of Quimperlé Communauté, a few weeks ago. .
The old professional tax, now rediluted in the compensation allocations, would amount to a little more than €500,000 for Quimperlé. Thanks to the presence of Bigard, but also large companies like Nestlé and PDM. “Historically, Bigard is a company that has created jobs, but it is a Source of fiscal wealth for the city. It has a significant weight. It contributes to the wealth of the city of Quimperlé,” readily admits the mayor, Michaël Quernez.
“It’s a locomotive for the region”
Beyond this windfall, there is the assurance of supporting 1,200 employees, a large part of whom live in the Quimperlé living area. The Bigard group alone brings together more than 13% of private salaried employment in a region which has made the agri-food industry its primary driver, with 2,500 employees and 25% of private jobs.
