With the filing of a murder charge on Friday against Sébastien Lapointe, the total of alleged femicides rose to seven, or as many in four months as for the entire year 2023.

The 37-year-old man was accused of the unpremeditated murder of Marie-Claude Raymond, 51, found lifeless and seriously injured in her Terrebonne residence. His death was noted on the spot, indicated the officers of the Terrebonne Intermunicipal Police Service.

Sébastien Lapointe was on the scene and was arrested there. He appeared last Friday at the Laval courthouse. He is due back before a judge on Friday.

Since the start of 2024, seven women are presumed to have been killed by their spouse. Of this total, five men were arrested and charged with murder. In the two other cases, for the murders of Louise Houle and Lorraine Marsolais, the police ruled that their spouses had taken their own lives after killing them. No charges will therefore be filed against them.
