Death of Dr Dioubaté: Amnesty International calls on the authorities to “conduct investigations without delay

The death in detention of Dr Mohamed Dioubaté arouses reactions the day after the controversial exit of the Prefect of Kankan, the controller general of police, Kandia Mara.

Dr Mohamed Dioubaté, a pediatrician in Kankan, was arrested and imprisoned. He was accused of having burned the effigy of the President of the transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya, in Kankan. A few days later, in the early morning of September 26, his death for reasons not yet clarified was noted.

The day after the media release of the Prefect of Kankan who warned any citizen who attempted to burn the new effigy of the President of the transition against the fate reserved for Dr. Dioubaté, Amnesty International calls on the authorities.

“The authorities must immediately conduct an independent investigation into the causes of the death of Mohamed Dioubaté, pediatrician at the Kankan regional hospital, accused of burning a portrait of the head of state on September 7. He died in Kankan prison on September 26”wrote the West and Central Africa branch of Amnesty International.
