Among the many subjects discussed during the municipal council last Monday, the elected officials of the city of addressed the construction of a performance hall on the site of the former industrial wasteland Peigné, located at 18 avenue Maunoury.

The new building should include a large room capable of accommodating 500 spectators in tiers, as well as a second, smaller room, 150 places dedicated to rehearsals and creation. Offices and technical spaces are also planned.

Questions from the opposition

The project sparked reactions within the opposition. Municipal councilor Malik Benakcha expressed reservations about the relevance of such an investment while emphasizing the allocated budget of 19 million euroshalf of which would be borne by the City. According to the opposition municipal council, this sum could be best used for areas such as education, the environment or even the renovation urban infrastructure. Malik Benakcha also mentioned the lack of information on the operating costs futurs.

Other elected officials did not fail to insist on the need rigorous budgetary management. Michel Chassier, elected from the National Rally, raised the question of securitygiven the location of the room on either side of a major traffic route. However, almost the entire assembly recognized interest of such a project for the territory.

The mayor explains

The mayor of Blois, Marc Gricourt, recalled that this project goes back to the previous term of office (the town hall was then under the responsibility of Nicolas Perruchot under the label Les Républicains, Editor’s note).

The mayor justified the capacity of the new room, bringing it down to 500 places in accordance with the recommendations entertainment professionals who consider this format in adequacy with the planned programming.

Before construction, demolition

The demolition of the former wasteland is planned for 2025. The delivery of this new cultural infrastructure in 2028 will subsequently allow work to be undertaken to thermal renovation and accessibility to the Grain Hall, which will then benefit from a much-awaited modernization.
