The 3rd edition of the Plumes d’Or, book trophies in Africa, will be held on November 29, 2024 in Ouagadougou under the theme “Resilience”. The announcement was made by the Academy of African Feathers, which is an institution of the African Society for the Promotion of Development Initiatives (SAPED), on Saturday September 28, 2024 during a press conference.

Plumes d’Or is a ceremony recognizing book actors, particularly writers. It is an event which aims to promote African book stakeholders, to boost the book sector and to contribute to the influence of the African continent through books. It brings together many book stakeholders, including writers, publishers, printers, booksellers, broadcasters, distributors, librarians, teacher-researchers, literary critics, journalists, without forgetting readers.

After the first two editions held in 2019 and 2020 and which saw the coronation of Sophie Heidi Kam and William AN Combary, the Academy of African Feathers is back for a 3rd edition which will take place on November 29, 2024 at 7 p.m. at CENASA .

For this edition, 61 applications were registered in eight categories. The Plume d’Or category receives eight applications, ten in the poetry category, 18 applications in the novel category, seven in the short story and four in the story. In the best young writer category, the Academy of African Feathers recorded five applications, as well as five in the best literary revelation category and in the best female literary publication category, there were four applications. Tribute trophies will also be awarded to renowned writers.

Youssouf Ouédraogo, general commissioner, emphasizes that the juries are already hard at work

Youssouf Ouédraogo, general commissioner of the organizing committee, emphasizes that the six juries set up to decide between the candidates are already hard at work. These book professionals and literature specialists must read all of the competing works in order to be able to rate them according to the established criteria and thus designate the winners.

An innovation…

As Youssef Ouédraogo explains, the Plumes d’Or reward authors of published literary works. However, the Academy of African Feathers wants to give pride of place to budding writers. Thus, this 3rd edition incorporates innovations. This involves the organization on November 27 of a competition called “The new literary voices of Africa”, which aims to highlight young talents who have not yet published works. In addition, a round table discussion on the book industry is planned for November 28, 2024.
