“The French have things to say and often good solutions to propose”: Michel Barnier announces that he wants to organize a “national day of citizen consultation”

On the occasion of his general policy declaration before the National Assembly, Prime Minister Michel Barnier affirmed Tuesday his desire to regularly organize a “national day of citizen consultation”. He also mentioned the possibility that communities “ask a question that day“to their citizens.

Open town halls, debates opened by the State

“On that day, town halls would be open and each level of common community, intercommunity, department, region, State will be able, if it wishes, to open a debate and ask citizens a question”specified the Prime Minister, who affirmed that the French had “things to say and often good solutions to propose.

This initiative was defended by the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet.

“Respect and accountability to French men and women”, explained Michel Barnier to the deputies. He also assured that he wanted “building a new responsibility contract between local authorities and the State”forty years after the major decentralization laws.
