“If we hadn’t stopped her, Armelle would have continued to kill!” Catherine Marchal reacts to the finale of the series with Nolwenn Leroy

Monday September 30, at 9:10 p.m., TF1 broadcasts the last two episodes of Brocéliandean event series whose first episodes fascinated more than 5 million viewers on D+7! After three weeks of investigation, it is Armelle Kermabon, played by Catherine Marchal, who is arrested for the three murders at the heart of the investigation in this thriller. A double-edged ending, since we discover that the biology professor is also the mother of Fanny Legoff, played by Nolwenn Leroy (whose talent the entire troupe praised), and not Chantal Legoff, played by Marie-Anne Chazel , which, however, hid heavy secrets. How Catherine Marchal, also in the credits ofHere it all begins in the role of Claire Guinot, did she experience the ending sequences? We asked him the question.

Brocéliande : “If we hadn’t stopped her, Armelle would have continued to kill!” explains Catherine Marchal

Télé-Loisirs: You who have taken on cop roles a lot, it’s rather rare to see you with handcuffs on your wrist, right?
Catherine Marchal
: It’s true that it’s more common to see me on the other side of the law! On the other hand, although I have played the culprits a few times, this is the first time that I have played a totally above-ground psychopath! If she hadn’t been stopped, Armelle would have continued to kill. The lives of others are not his problem!

How did you experience filming this finale?
It was a terrible anguish because the entire burden of the outcome weighs on the success or otherwise of a series. From then on, we trust the editing and the choice of the director. As all the forest scenes were shot at the same time, these were done in the middle of filming. Personally, I decided not to make a fuss about it; sobriety was my refuge.

Catherine Marchal (Brocéliande) : “When I fired the Kalashnikov, the impacts reached the ceiling! “

We see you shooting with a shotgun, how did you prepare?
I had no problems with the rifle. Which was already a good thing because it is a heavy weapon, quite powerful and not easy to handle. During previous shoots, I was lucky enough to have trained in shooting live ammunition in shooting ranges. My body remembers it, I can play it, even if I don’t like it at all! When I fired the Kalashnikov, the impacts reached the ceiling because it was so heavy!

What type of bullets did you use for the finale of Brocéliande ?
Today, it is forbidden to shoot with large loads, but, thanks to special effects, we can achieve the same effect on the screen. Blank firing is generally carried out with half charges and, now, quarter charges are used.

Brocéliande: “Our idea was to demonstrate that we could have guessed everything if we had looked carefully” explains Catherine Marchal

Is playing the guilty party an added pleasure in this type of series?
Obviously ! This is the great interest of the role. This is what we refined with the director Bruno Garcia and Juliette Hayat, our producer, who was there every day. My daily concern was to tell myself that, if we watch the film a second time, we will see and understand everything. As a result, Bruno added a lot of silent shots, strange looks, not necessarily written in the script at the beginning, to sow the little stones of this outcome. Our idea was to demonstrate that we could have guessed everything if we had looked carefully.

Especially since the outcome is double, since Armelle, your character is also the mother of Fanny, that of Nolwenn Leroy…
The question was: “did Armelle know?” As it is not really resolved in the series, we said to ourselves that our complicity as student and teacher, the mentor side of my character, the pride she has for Fanny, was unconsciously linked to this connection. It’s both visceral and unconscious.

How did you agree with Nolwenn Leroy before playing the resolution scenes?
Like a pas de deux in which it was me who led the dance and she who only had to follow since she discovers the whole truth. As Nolwenn is a very “spongy” person and we already had a very good bond, she was completely confident, both with me and with the director. She let herself be embarked in a very flexible and calm manner, it was really nice!
