“I stopped answering the phone”: why was Jérémy Frérot absent for so long?

After two years spent in peace in the Arcachon basin, Jérémy Frérot returns to the forefront with his third solo album, “Gamin des Sables”. The French singer, former member of Fréro Delavega, offers a true introspective journey, tinged with childhood memories and intense emotions.

For Jérémy Frérot, this album is an immersion in his region of origin. “Gamin des Sables” is also a direct reference to this period of pause and reflection that he experienced in the Arcachon basin. After the success of Fréro Delavega and his first two solo albums, he felt the need to reconnect with his native land and his roots.

“I stopped in the area for two years, where I live with my children. It allowed me to live a normal life, far from the media whirlwind”he explains. Like many artists, after great success, Jérémy needed to slow down, breathe and take stock. “I needed to recharge my batteries and fill my head with new things to write songs”he confides.

With the song “Adieu”, Jérémy Frérot talks about separation and the upheavals it causes, particularly for children. “It’s about a family life that changes in its plans because there are going to be two houses and a change in the organization. But this change is never going to reach the love that we have for the children and the “education that we want to give them, to help them grow peacefully”he said.

The artist admits to having received numerous testimonies from parents and children touched by this song, proof that its message resonates deeply: “There are couples who separated with this song because they saw that it was possible for things to go well. And there are couples who stayed together because they told themselves that they were going to fight for the children”.

Other tracks on the album, like “I Promise”, are apologies to his friends for distancing themselves: “During these two years when I needed a break from the media, I also stopped answering the phone a little”.

With this new album, Jérémy Frérot is going back on tour next January and says he is impatient to see his audience again. “I write songs to be moved, myself, and to move people. I am made for the stage”he says enthusiastically. Among the key dates, his concert at the Cirque Royal in Brussels, scheduled for May 30, promises to be a moment full of emotions.
