Halloween time is ideal for giving yourself chills. Streaming platforms know how much this dark and scary atmosphere is appreciated. This is why they are full of horror films and series. Here is our selection to wait until D-day!

Agatha All Along (série, Disney+)

Pitch : Deprived of her powers, Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) tries to find them again. In doing so, she takes, with a mysterious teenager and a group of peers, the legendary Witches’ Route, a path strewn with magical trials.

Our opinion: This spin-off of the “WandaVision” series skillfully mixes comedy, fantasy, drama and musical, offering a delightful experience for Marvel fans. The casting is promising and the atmosphere resolutely offbeat. It remains to be seen whether the scenario will be sustained over time.

Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez (series, Netflix)

Pitch : Beverly Hills, 1989. Brothers Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik Menendez (Cooper Koch) make a macabre decision: kill their parents.

Our opinion: After the enormous success of “Dahmer” (2022), the series “Monsters:…”, inspired by real crimes and created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, brings together two parricide brothers who hit the headlines across the Atlantic in the 1990s. Terribly effective, but too glamorous and sensationalist… This is already what we criticized in the first episode.

A documentary film about the Menendez brothers is available October 7 on Netflix.

The Watchers (film, HBO max)

Pitch : When her car breaks down in a vast forest, Mina (Dakota Fanning) finds refuge in an abandoned house, occupied by three mysterious inhabitants. They explain to her that she is trapped by “watchers”, supernatural individuals who observe them every night through a mirror. Be careful, if she looks into their eyes, she will lose her life…

Our opinion: M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter offers an unsurprising horror feature film. The aesthetics and casting are acceptable, but the story struggles to give the slightest thrill.

Curse (kids’ animated series, Apple TV+)

Pitch : The Vandehouvens are a family like any other… until the day Alex, the father, is cursed and turned into a statue. In order to save him, his wife and children have no choice but to embark on thrilling adventures to return artifacts stolen by one of their ancestors.

Our opinion: A family animated series mixing adventure and fantasy. Lovers of supernatural stories will be in heaven and the well-delivered humor will entertain more than one!

The Platform

Pitch : Goreng (Iván Massagné) embarks on an extraordinary adventure to obtain an approved certificate. He voluntarily joins “the pit”, a strange vertical prison where a platform descends several floors every day to feed its inhabitants.

Our opinion: A perfect metaphor for our society of overconsumption and social and economic inequalities, this psychological thriller shakes up minds and questions our own values. Attention sensitive souls!

A second part is available on Friday October 4.
