The decree was published in the Official Journal on April 27, and relayed by the prefecture on Tuesday 30: the commune of Hayange was recognized as being in a state of natural disaster due to flooding and mudslides for the period from 2 to 4 January 2024.
This recognition allows individuals to be compensated by their insurance. According to the decree, victims who have already made their declaration before the publication of the decree do not have to take any particular administrative action but must contact their insurer again in order to prepare for the arrival of the experts.
At the very beginning of the year, La Tensch, a small tributary of the Fensch, overflowed at Marpisch rue du Duc-de-Fleury. On the night of January 2 to 3, the water began to rise after 8 p.m., flowing into a handful of houses, invading courtyards, garages and cellars. For local residents, the phenomenon is regular. It would happen every two years for thirty years. The CAVF ensures that the grids which slow down the flow of water under the Arcelor wastelands are cleaned. Local residents believe that this is not enough. They should be partly heard. I n 2024, it is planned to expand the retention basins in the district.
