The Annecy International Animated Film Festival continues its expansion.

During a press conference that we attended, the festival organization welcomed the 15,820 accredited (i.e. 19% increase compared to 2022) and 102 countries represented. In 2024, the festival is thinking even bigger, notably by extending its programming: an “Annecy presents” selection intended for family films like Garfield or Detective Conan complements the other categories already established. For this, additional rooms have been added and the sessions will now start at 8:30 a.m. (that’s going to sting…).

The Festival will open on Sunday June 9 with The Most Precious Goods by Michel Hazanavicius, in the official selection. Among the other titles in the competition, we selected Memory of a Snail by Adam Eliot (the director of Mary & Max, who returns!), Sauvages by Claude Barras (Ma Vie de Courgette) and the new film by Naoko Yamada hosted by Science Saru: The Colors Within.

On the guest side, the first name is that of Terry Gilliam. The former Monty Python will receive the Crystal of Honor for his work on animation. Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) will present Transformers One and Chris Sanders (Dragons) will be present for the Wild Robot. Ultraman Rising by Shannon Tindle will have its world premiere. The public will be able to discover the first images of Twilight of the Gods, a series by Zack Snyder animated in France by Xilam, as well as those of Combat de Chef, the highly (very very) anticipated return of Alain Chabat to Asterix.

The Annecy Festival will be held from May 9 to 15 and all the details are on the official website.
