what we know about the fatal accident on the Prado in Marseille

Thursday May 16 around 3:30 p.m., two people died when their car caught fire on the Prado in Marseille (8th) following a collision with another vehicle. If the circumstances still remain unclear as to the reasons, the manner in which the accident took place is clearer. France 3 Provence-Alpes had access to video surveillance which recorded the traffic and the accident that day.

This Thursday, around 3:30 p.m., Marseille firefighters were called to intervene in a traffic accident, resulting in the death of two people and a fire on several vehicles at 564 avenue du Prado.

Contrary to the first information collected on site, the burning vehicle was not traveling in the wrong direction. On the video surveillance images that France 3 Provence-Alpes was able to consult, we see very clearly the first vehicle arriving slowly, passing a parking space, putting on its indicator and beginning the maneuver before being hit at very high speed by a large displacement. The SUV type vehicle, dark in color, in its speed, hit the left side of the small city car doing its slot, took it in its crazy race for several meters and crashed into another vehicle already parked further away. The fire started at that moment.

The video only lasts a few seconds, but we can imagine the violence of the shock.

“When the first engine arrived, the firefighters could only see the three vehicles on fire and the two victims near the vehicleexplained the commander of relief operations the same day. These people apparently died because of the fire.” The driver of a fourth unburned vehicle was treated.

The bodies of the two people were located near the vehicle, as direct witnesses of the scene intervened to rescue the people trapped in the passenger compartment. Including two people in a white van which followed the SUV which hit the victims’ car.

In the images, we can see many people taking turns extracting the bodies from the car. They try it several times, because they seem bothered by the smoke and the intense heat given off by the flames. They even try to open the door wider by kicking it off its hinges. The two people were extracted from the vehicle, but did not survive the terrible shock and the flames.

In total, 32 firefighters were mobilized for this operation.
