Warmer than normal conditions in France “are the most likely” for the next three months (May to July), period which covers the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Météo-France indicated on Monday April 29, 2024.
Warmer than normal
“A warmer than normal scenario is most likely for France. This probability is more marked for the Mediterranean regions,” announces the public establishment in its latest three-month trends.
This probability is estimated at 50% for mainland France, compared to 30% for a scenario consistent with normal and 20% for a colder scenario. Weather normals are calculated over the period 1991-2020.
Regarding precipitation, “no scenario is favored for France, and more generally for Europe”.
Start of the Olympics
These trends, which Météo-France updates each month for the following three months, coincide with the start of the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11).
They indicate the most likely scenario among the following three: close to, below or above seasonal norms.
Too early
But “it is too early to predict this summer’s weather conditions week by week”underlines Météo-France, which warns against hasty conclusions.
Thus, it is much too early to say whether the summer will be scorching or not – a factor which can influence the organization of certain sporting events.
“Predicting a scenario warmer than normal over three months does not necessarily imply the occurrence of heat waves or heatwaves” And “three-month climatic trends do not provide information on the possibility of breaking records in the coming season or not”insists Météo-France.
