The explosion at a gas station in the Russian republic of Dagestan, in the Caucasus, left at least nine dead and 10 injured this Friday, September 27, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced.

The ministry said on its Telegram account that two children were among those killed. An initial report from the ministry reported five deaths and three injured.

Earlier, the same source indicated that the technical area and the cafeteria of the gas station burned over an area of ​​500 m2. The ministry later said the fire was under control, but not yet extinguished.

According to this source, the station is located south of Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, on a road towards the town of Novy Khouchet.

Nearly 120 rescuers were on site, according to the ministry.

In August 2023, 37 people were killed and 119 others injured by the explosion at a gas station in the suburbs of Makhachkala. Accidents of this type are common in Russia, often due to violations of safety standards or dilapidated facilities.
