Europa League: Onana and United held to a draw by Twente at Old Trafford

We witnessed a game full of twists and turns tonight at Old Trafford. Manchester United offered their hospitality to Twente as part of the first day of the Europa League. For this major European meeting, the stadium was full as expected. Indeed, for this revamped competition, the 22 players produced some great play. Even if we finish, the Mancunians leave the pitch with their heads down. They missed the opportunity to start with three points.

Erik Ten Hag’s foals started the match well. With the status of “early favourite”, many Manchester United supporters saw this match as a mere formality. Because the opening score (1-0) in the 32nd minute by Christian Eriksen proved them right; at least for a while. In the game, there was a slight improvement. Unfortunately at United, old habits die hard.

Under pressure on the edge of the penalty area, Christian Eriksen will miss his control. Sam Lammers, with a nice burst of speed, will find himself face to face with André Onana. His shot will catch the Indomitable Lions goalkeeper off guard in the 68th minute (1-1). United will struggle for a good part of the match. The English will get their heads above water towards the last minutes. The offensive line will fall on goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall who is well in place. With this parity score, Manchester United is provisionally 10e in the standings with 1 point out of the 36 competing clubs.
