The rapid intervention of the firefighters of Pléhédel, Saint-Quay-Portrieux, Lanvollon, Guingamp, Plouha, Lézardrieux and Paimpol prevented the flames from spreading to the hangar housing the old silos on one side and to the stone dwelling house (also unoccupied for a long time) on the other side.

Roof on fire

However, the rest of the buildings could not be saved. “When we arrived, the roof was already on fire”specifies the group leader, Yves Forestier.

While waiting for the premises to be secured, Enedis services, also on site, proceeded to cut off the power throughout the area for a little over an hour. The mayor, Yves Liennel, as well as the police were also on site.

The devastated building has been looted and squatted on several occasions. It has been the subject of a manifest abandonment procedure by the municipality since January 2023.

According to initial findings of the investigation, the fire, which was accidental in origin, broke out in an electrical box.
