A declared candidate for the rise against a promoted one, Paris against its suburbs: the Ile-de- derby had to be an opposition of styles. It was a conquering Paris FC who presented themselves at the Bauer stadium this Saturday during the 6th day of Ligue 2. Stéphane Gilli’s men launched hostilities in the 2nd minute, with a big strike from Adama Camara. Above all, the visitors confiscated the ball with possession exceeding 70%. Red Star operates on the counter. Fall takes a cross in the 3rd minute, then Durand makes a cross shot which forces Nkambadio to work.

Faced with a low block and a five-man defense, spaces are extremely rare: Gory and Krasso are almost impossible to find, so it is the PFC midfielders who must make the difference. After a cross from Gaudin and a poor return from Mendy, Camara inherits the ball in the Red Star area, in the middle of a forest of players, hooks and finds the opening with the tip of his foot (0-1, 20e).

By scoring the first goal against a regrouped team, the PFC theoretically did the hard part. In practice, Red Star’s counterattacks remain devastating: Audonian Damien Durand narrowly misses the target on a free kick at the entrance to the area (27th) then, Fodé Doucouré, served behind a cross from Ifnaoui , delays and beats the PFC goalkeeper, as well as two Parisian outfield players practically down on the goal line (1-1, 32e). The Parisian machine is going wrong. Almost on the line-up, Kolodziejczak loses the ball and Durand sends shivers through Bauer’s audience with a cross shot that skims the post. The game seems to be balanced… until Krasso’s bright pass for Gory, cut down in the area by Beunardeau. It’s Krasso who takes the penalty and transforms it gently (1-2, 45+1).

Red Star broken in its peak

In the second half, Red Star returns with completely different intentions and discovers itself. Gory found the foot of Beunardeau (48th) before a huge double opportunity from Red Star in the 50th minute, after a whipped shot from Hachem, Doucouré came close to the double but came up against Nkambadio’s reflex parade. As the minutes pass, the match takes on its full derby dimension: contacts harden and the tone rises on the sidelines. Grégory Poirier’s men still make the Parisians tremble with a splendid return from Bisenty Mendy which narrowly misses the target.

However, the Audoniens’ strong quarter of an hour ended with a goal from Paris FC. On a clear counter, Gory serves Krasso on a platter (1-3, 57e) and here is the Red Star caught in its own trap. Apart from a diving header from Mendy in added time, the locals’ last attempts were too sporadic. After the changes, the PFC will no longer lose control of events.

The air gap of mid-September is forgotten for the PFC which temporarily regains the lead in the Ligue 2 ranking, while awaiting the response from against on Monday evening.
