Thick black smoke hangs over Brussels. It emanates from a fire which fully developed in a factory in Sint-Peeters-Leeuw.
Firefighters recommend closing doors and windows as well as turning off ventilation systems.
The fire is being managed by the Flemish Brabant firefighters, but the Brussels firefighters are providing reinforcement on site. They dispatched men, two pumpers, two ladder trucks and a tanker truck. The flames ravaged an automobile company, before spreading to a neighboring building. The latter collapsed after an explosion. “The building in which the fire broke out as well as the second one were completely destroyed,” explained the spokesperson for the local emergency zone.
The causes of the fire have not yet been officially identified. However, the mayor believes that grinding work is the cause of the incident. The firefighters have not yet confirmed this lead.
