A building affected by a fire in Vaucluse, a mother and her 10-year-old son found dead

A tragedy which cost the lives of two people. A mother and her 10-year-old son died on Wednesday April 24, 2024 in a fire in an apartment in Valréas (), in the middle of the afternoon. The fire reached three homes in total before being brought under control by firefighters, reports 3 Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur .

The alert was given around 4:30 p.m. for a fire spotted on the third floor of a four-story apartment building. Even before the firefighters arrived, young people from the neighborhood tried to intervene to control the flames. Around thirty firefighters then took over and managed to put out the fire.

An ongoing investigation into the fire

On the third floor, in the apartment where the fire started, firefighters discovered the lifeless bodies of a 31-year-old woman and her son, specifies France Blue Vaucluse . Several people were also bothered by the fumes and two of them had to be hospitalized.

Nearly thirty affected people were rehoused by the town hall and by relatives. On Facebook, the municipality said “deeply saddened” by the drama and “associated” to the mourning of the victims’ families. An investigation is underway to identify the cause of the fire and the town hall must open a psychological unit on Friday April 26, 2024, reports further France Blue.
