During the Journées du patrimoine, the Le Monde Group is exceptionally opening the doors of its headquarters next to the Gare d’Austerlitz to the public. Completed in 2020, this spectacular building, located at the entrance to the Rive Gauche district, was designed by the international architecture agency Snøhetta, based in Oslo, Norway. Built on slabs, above the railway tracks, spanning a non-buildable slab (hence its characteristic arched profile), its shape also evokes a wave breaking towards the forecourt of the neighboring station. Its façade, made up of around 20,000 glass panels, gives the impression of being pixelated and evokes, according to Kjetil Thorsen, co-founder of Snøhetta, the notions of transparency and opacity that are at the heart of the work of the media and journalists. Shared by the editorial offices of Le Monde, Nouvel Obs, Télérama, Courrier international, La Vie and HuffPost, the building accommodates around 1,600 employees. It is certified high environmental quality (HQE) at the “excellent” level and benefits from the Effinergie+ label. Its upper level is equipped with solar panels and rainwater recovery tanks. of the building are organized as part of the [Festival du Monde](https://festival.lemonde.fr/), which takes place from September 20 to 22, in parallel with the Heritage Days. This year, the festival celebrates the 80th anniversary of the newspaper _Le Monde,_ whose first issue was published on December 19, 1944_._ Free and open-access activities and meetings will be offered on the forecourt of the building throughout the weekend, as well as a catering offer. It is advisable to register in advance for the visits. Registration will be open from the beginning of September [sur le site du Festival du Monde](https://festival.lemonde.fr/).
