Heritage Day 2024. The Vire Normandy sub-prefecture opens its doors to the public on Saturday

It is a place that is both emblematic and little-known in Vire Normandie (): the Cahours hotel, which houses the town’s sub-prefecture, will open its doors to the public on Saturday 21 September as part of the European Heritage Days.

A building constructed between 1800 and 1807

From 9 am to 5 pm, it will be possible to enter this remarkable monument made of granite freely. If this 572 m² building now houses the offices of the prefectural administration, it was initially the private property of Guillaume Cahours.

The lord of Percy and Chesfresne (Manche), private master of Waters and Forests, had it built between 1800 and 1807. The Department acquired it in 1840. Since then, the private mansion has seen around sixty sub-prefects pass through.

Saturday September 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., free visit without registration of the sub-prefecture, at 7, rue des Cordeliers, in Vire Normandie.
