A fire broke out this Monday, September 16, early in the evening in the town of Trèbes, near the Cantalauze estate, near .

The Aude firefighters were sent to the site and activated a major operation as soon as the alert was given: four forest fire intervention groups were dispatched to the site, or around 80 firefighters. At the height of the operations, around a hundred men, with around thirty vehicles, were engaged on the site. The chain of command was also set up and the command post was installed near the Villedubert stadium.

“Thanks to the firefighters’ responsiveness, we escaped the worst. The fire was stopped before the place called Passe-Lys in Trèbes”the mayor of the commune, Eric Menassi, who remained at the command post with the mayor of Villedubert, Marc Roffès, appeared relieved.

The fire was contained at 9:45 p.m., after having covered 7 hectares of vegetation. The resources remain in place on site, the time for the firefighters to finish extinguishing the flames, before giving way to a surveillance device which was to be set up for the night.

“A front of flames, right in front of me”

“I had a friend call me to ask if my house was burning.”explains Thomas Sananes, from the Cantalauze estate. “The fire started on a vacant lot 50 meters away, on the other side of the road. What struck me was that there was a front of flames straight in front of me, as if someone had dragged a can of gasoline for several meters.”he continues. “Our luck is that we had the wind on our side, at no time did we feel in danger. Now, when I see the red glow on the other side, I think the fire is far from being under control. We fear power cuts because there are power lines in the path of the fire.”confided Thomas Sananes around 8:20 p.m.
